Sick leave certificate attestation in the UAE

Which health authority should I use?

Ask the facility that issued your certificate whether its electronic output is already attested and which authority is responsible. The word “attestation” does not mean every local sick-leave certificate needs a MoFA application.

MOHAP’s current service names DoH Abu Dhabi, DHA, Dubai Health, Sharjah Health Authority and Emirates Health Services among the authorised bodies whose already-attested documents generally do not require another MOHAP attestation. It also states an exception for sick leave requiring Medical Committee approval for submission to a federal or local government employer in the Northern Emirates.

Use the exact certificate and employer context when checking that exception. Do not buy another attestation solely because a generic checklist mentions it.

MOHAP fee, deadline and processing

The following is the MOHAP service scope, checked on 26 September 2026. Other health authorities and employer requirements need their own checks.

These are published service durations, not an EasyAttestation promise. A separate employer deadline for reporting absence is a different question. Confirm it directly with your employer.

What to check before applying

1. Issuing facility: confirm that it meets the service’s licensing requirements.
2. Existing attestation: check whether the electronic certificate already carries the responsible authority’s validation.
3. Submitter: ask whether the facility submits proactively or you must apply yourself.
4. Leave and employer category: check the committee exception instead of assuming every leave over five days follows one route.
5. Required documents: MOHAP lists the certificate for short leave and a related medical report for leave over five days. Companion leave has additional requirements.
6. Destination for records: supply records only through the official health-service process. This website has no medical-document submission form.

Illustrative example: two people with three-day certificates may have different processing estimates if a facility submits one application and the other person applies directly. Leave length alone does not determine the current published duration.

Documents issued outside the UAE

MOHAP’s service excludes overseas medical reports and leave certificates unless MoFA has attested them and they meet its service requirements. Confirm acceptance with MOHAP before paying for the foreign-document route. An overseas attestation does not itself settle employer approval or medical-committee eligibility.

Documents MOHAP does not attest through this service

Its exclusion list includes handwritten sick leave, attendance certificates, prescriptions, invoices, laboratory results and radiology images. A receipt or test result is not a substitute for the requested certificate. Ask the facility what official output is needed.
