How the process works
UAE document attestation checklist
Short answer
Before paying, confirm the receiving authority, document type and country of issue. Then check the original is unlaminated, names match, each required document is counted separately, the home-country chain is complete, and the UAE mission covers the issuing country. After MoFA, verify the result and translate only if the receiving body requires it.

1. Before ordering or submitting anything
- I have the receiving authority’s requirement in writing.
- I know whether it wants attestation, recognition, translation—or none of them.
- I am using the route for the country of issue, not my nationality or current residence.
- The name, date of birth and document number match the passport or application.
- The document will remain valid through the full chain and receiving process.
2. Check the physical or digital document
- The original is not laminated.
- Birth, marriage and death records are originals where the mission requires originals.
- Every page, seal, signature and QR/reference is clear and complete.
- A scanned image has not been mistaken for an original digital document.
- Certificate and transcript have been counted separately where both are needed.
- MOA and AOA have been counted separately.
3. Complete the issuing-country chain
- The document has the correct first authority for its type: university, civil registry, notary, chamber or regulator.
- The issuing country’s foreign ministry has authenticated it in the output required for UAE use.
- Any apostille-country output has been checked against the UAE mission’s instructions; an apostille alone is not enough for UAE use.
- The UAE mission handling it covers the country where the document was issued.
4. UAE mission and MoFA
- The mission’s current service page has been checked for channel, courier, original and payment rules.
- Personal versus commercial classification has been checked.
- The application data matches the document exactly.
- The portal—not the applicant—has determined digital versus courier processing.
- No more than five documents per application, all on the same (digital or courier) route.
- Application, payment and courier references are saved.
5. After completion
- The result has been checked at verify.mofa.gov.ae using the reference and issue date.
- The returned record matches the document type and issuing details.
- The receiving authority’s translation rule has been followed.
- Copies of the completed document and receipts are stored securely.
- Sensitive scans have been removed from unnecessary chats, shared drives and devices.
