Birth certificate attestation for the UAE
Short answer
For a birth certificate issued abroad, check the issuing-country preparation and the relevant UAE mission’s attestation route before applying. MoFA lists AED 150 for an individual-affairs document, but that is not a complete route price. Ask the visa authority or school which certificate, translation and attestations it needs.
- MoFA base category
- Individual affairs: AED 150
- Complete price
- UNKNOWN until route and included stages are confirmed
- Where to start

Start with the visa or school checklist
A birth certificate establishes information about the birth and parentage. Attestation authenticates signatures and seals; it does not correct those details or guarantee a visa or school place.
ICP’s residency document list names children’s birth certificates. Use the checklist for the exact application and ask which authentication and language are required. School admissions requirements must be checked with the school or relevant education authority; do not turn one school’s request into a UAE-wide rule.
Before paying, record the recipient, application type, certificate issuing country, required language and submission deadline. If a sibling or another parent already has an attested record, ask whether that output meets the present requirement rather than automatically buying the chain again.
Check the names and the certificate format
Compare the child’s name, date of birth and both parents’ names with the supporting records. Differences may involve transliteration, surname order or a parent’s maiden name. Ask the receiving authority and issuing civil registry how a discrepancy should be documented or corrected. Do not amend an official record yourself.
The relevant mission decides what it accepts. London and Canberra specifically require birth certificates in original form. A digital attestation result does not necessarily mean a scan-only application: mission services can still require physical originals. Follow the chosen channel’s instructions on originals, language and lamination before arranging delivery.
Illustrative example: a family living in Dubai with an Australian-issued birth certificate should check the Australian preparation and Canberra service, even if the parents hold another country’s passports. Their residence and nationality do not turn it into an Indian or UK certificate.
Country-of-issue checklist
These links help locate the right preparation route. They are not a universal fee or turnaround table.
| Issuing country | Start with | Confirm before paying |
|---|---|---|
| India | MEA attestation guidance and the India guide | Accepted civil record, pre-authentication and relevant UAE mission service |
| Pakistan | MoFA Pakistan document guidance and the Pakistan guide | Accepted issuing body and any preparation before the UAE stage |
| Philippines | DFA requirements and the Philippines guide | Required civil-registry copy and which DFA output the UAE mission accepts; resolve conflicting instructions before ordering |
| United Kingdom | FCDO legalisation and the UK guide | Eligible original and current London digital/courier instructions |
| Egypt | Egyptian MFA authentication and the Egypt guide | Civil-status preparation and the current UAE mission application |
| Australia | DFAT preparation and the Australia guide | DFAT output and Canberra’s combined UAE service |
Use the current official instructions where an older guide differs. Ask the mission to resolve an unclear requirement before releasing an original document.
Compare quotes without counting a stage twice
MoFA’s published individual-affairs base fee is AED 150. A complete quotation may also include registry issuance, authentication in the issuing country, a UAE mission service, delivery, translation and independent-provider work. An application can cover both embassy and UAE MoFA attestations; check the included stages before adding separate amounts.
Ask for a line-by-line quotation with these fields:
- Document and quantity: which original records are included?
- Authority stage: who charges each fee and what output does it produce?
- Combined services: is a MoFA stage already included in the mission application?
- Delivery and translation: which journeys and languages are covered?
- Provider charge: what work does the independent provider actually perform?
- Exclusions and tax: what could still be payable, and when will it be confirmed?
A blank line is UNKNOWN, not zero. The calculator illustrates a fee component; it cannot determine your complete route price.
Plan the deadline stage by stage
Check preparation, home-country authentication, the UAE mission, any additional required MoFA stage, translation and delivery separately. Do not add stages that the selected service already combines. Ask which estimate starts only after the authority receives a complete file.
The current MoFA service distinguishes eligible UAE-issued digital documents from courier and overseas services. None of those published windows is a promise for every foreign birth-certificate journey. Keep visa and school deadlines separate from a provider’s estimate.
When the child was born in the UAE
For overseas use, ask the foreign recipient what attestations and language it accepts, then check MoFA’s UAE-issued-document route. The assigned channel depends on the issuer and document. Confirm the included attestations for the destination rather than assuming every UAE certificate has a fixed AED 300 package.
For local use, ask the UAE recipient for its checklist. Do not purchase overseas legalisation simply because the certificate is a birth certificate.
Before you send the original
Keep a copy for your records, the receiving authority’s written instructions, the quote and the delivery reference. Confirm who will hold the original, which documents will return, and how you can verify the output. Do not send certificate scans, identity numbers or government login details in an initial enquiry to this portal.

The process, step by step
Get the recipient checklist
Ask the visa authority or school which certificate, language and attestations it accepts.
Check the civil record
Compare names, dates and parent details against the application documents. Ask the issuing registry about corrections or supporting evidence for discrepancies.
Confirm home-country preparation
Use the issuing-country authority and relevant UAE mission instructions. Do not assume a notarised photocopy or apostille alone is sufficient.
Apply through the appropriate UAE route
Check whether the mission service combines embassy and MoFA attestations. Review included stages before paying for a second application.
Check the completed output
Confirm the required attestations and any translation are present, then submit through the recipient’s process.
